The Magic of the Arenal Cloud Forest
Discover the beauty of the El Arenal Cloud Forest just outside of Matagalpa in northern Nicaragua!
Walk in a dense cloud forest, home of beautiful, exotic flora and fauna
Visit an organic farm which protects the environment while producing food
Just a few kilometers from Matagalpa is the El Arenal Natural Reserve, a dense cloud forest that is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna such as bromeliads, orchids, giant ferns, endangered mammals, and exotic birds. Your tour starts at La Hammonia, a self-sustaining organic farm located within the reserve, where we can see how it is possible to farm the land and protect the environment at the same time.
After visiting the farm, you’ll take a 3-hour hike through the cloud forest, home to exotic birds such as the Resplendent Quetzal and the Three-wattled Bell Bird, plus numerous mammals. Most hikers see monkeys, agouties, and peccaries.
