Hike the dense forest amid giant trees to a 60-meter waterfall
You will learn how the diversity of products grown in a sustainable way has advantages for the local community, producer, consumer, and the environment. While staying overnight on the mountain you choose from a variety of activities: bird watching, hiking, touring a butterfly farm or working on coffee processing. On the second day hike through the dense forest to a 60-meter waterfall. By visiting three destinations, you renew your appreciation for the interconnected natural world.

Day 1: La Canavalia Farm and La Sombra Ecolodge
The trip begins with a tour of La Canavalia, a model farm that functions as a school for small producers, promoting the organic, sustainable treatment of animals, fruits, and vegetables. Then go to La Sombra Ecolodge, a mountain hotel where you choose from various activities such as hiking trails, participating in coffee production, visiting one of the largest butterfly gardens in Nicaragua or bird watching.
Stay overnight at La Sombra Ecolodge.
Day 2: Nature Reserve Peñas Blancas Massif
On the second day walk through one of the country’s most important forests, the Peñas Blancas Massif on the southern boundary of biosphere reserve Bosawas. Your three-hour walk takes you through lush vegetation and past numerous water sources. The forest is a sanctuary of giant trees and you finish at the beautiful 60-meter high waterfall Rainbow.
After lunch return to Matagalpa, where the Nicaragua Nature tour ends.
