On this journey in Nicaragua, you will work alongside leaders at Las Tías in León, Nicaragua. Las Tías was started by 8 business women in 1989 after the revolution in their country. They began reaching out to street children and 20 years later, they had two thriving community centers providing meals, education, health care, and job skills training – serving over 150 youth annually.

Itinerary

Wednesday, November 8

You’ll be greeted by the your guides and staff upon your arrival at Managua International Airport. From there you’ll board private transport and enjoy the amazing views of Nicaragua’s landscapes on the way to León, where you’ll check-in to your local boutique hotel. In the evening you’ll head to a local restaurant on the beach, where you’ll enjoy cocktails, a beautiful sunset, delicious local seafood, and the company of the leadership of our local partner, Las Tías.

Thursday, November 9

Today the journey truly begins. You’ll start the day with a guided walking tour through the history of Las Tías. This will include seeing the local market, and a visit to the Las Tías Youth center. You’ll dive into its programs, and enjoy a warm welcome program from the children. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with both the kids and the staff, in order to gain a better understanding of the place and it’s purpose. You’ll spend the afternoon hiking an active volcano, and the evening enjoying a traditional local meal in a nearby village.

Friday, November 10

Today you’ll visit the second Las Tías project, the Adolescent Center. Again you will have the opportunity to engage with both students and staff, as well as lead an activity if you so desire. Enjoy volunteering and helping Las Tías prepare lunch for the students, and participate in projects around reading, art, or sports. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to explore León, and prepare for a traditional Nicaraguan Feast complete with dancing and a live band in the evening.

Saturday, November 11

After a delicious breakfast you’ll check out of the hotel in León and take a private transfer to Granada. Along the way, you’ll make a stop at the famous Masaya Craft Market, where you’ll be able to shop for incredible artisanal souvenirs. On this day you’ll have the option to hike the Mombacho volcano, do a boat/island tour, or simply just explore Granda.
