In the world there are eight different species of sea turtles and five of the eight come to Panama to nest! And specifically, in the community of Mata Oscura there are four different species of turtles that come to nest on these beautiful beaches.
Mata Oscura is located in the beautiful province of Veraguas and is cradled right on the coast of the province. It’s sandy beaches attract many travelers and surfers alike but more than anything else, it’s their sea turtles that are the main attraction.
On this tour you will be paired up with local guides to learn all about the local sea turtle conservation project. Your community guide will take you to the beach where the sea turtles come to nest and you will be able to participate in the locals conservation activities such as building the actual sea turtle nests.
At night, the fun part will start as your will embark on a monitoring hike on the beach of Mata Oscura to see if you can spot any sea turtles!
