Inhabited Island Visits: Visit untouched islands nearby, where you can snorkel, swim, explore, or just relax on the pristine white sand beaches.

Community Visits (Ukupseni Village): Learn about everyday life on the island. Visit city hall (Onmaket Nega) where community members hold meetings, celebrate community events, and sing together. You can also visit a ceremonial center, where the “chicha fuerte” traditional rites are performed. Stop at the local cemetery to learn how islanders celebrate life and remember loved ones.

Handicrafts are for sale at Ukupseni Village, all locally made with proceeds benefiting the community.

Mangrove Visits: Explore red, black, and white mangroves forests on the different islands or coastal walks. The ecosystem surrounding the mangroves provides important sanctuary for diverse marine wildlife, as the small species which grow here are protected by the extensive roots.

Bring your binoculars, and with your guide, identify a large variety of fish, crayfish and “guabinas” (river fish) survive in these forests, along with other wildlife such as the heron and pelican. Many migratory birds also come here and use this area to rest.

Forest Hikes: Hike through the nearby primary forests to see an immensely diverse range of flora and fauna. The Kunas use many flora species to build houses, boats and tools, and also use them artisan’s work and medicine.

Ecologists and scientists enjoy hiking the area, as it is so unaltered. Bring your binoculars, and keep an eye out for mammals, reptiles, insects and birds in their natural habitat.

River Tour: On this river tour of Diiwar Dummad or Diiwarak Rivers, see an incredible visual spectacle of birds and marine life on display.  You can see a huge range of species such as tanagers, hummingbirds, gulls, woodpeckers, parrots, macaws, toucans, and pelicans.

You can see many marine birds from Yandup Island Lodge but for bird enthusiasts this is not to be missed.
