  • Enjoy a sea food lunch and meals included on an all-inclusive package

Duration

2 Days

It begins with a domestic 45 minute flight departing from Albrook Airport, Panama City at 6:00 am.

After arriving to Playon Chico at Guna Yala you will be received and transported by boat to Yandup Island.

Description

Visit this family owned lodge on an island surrounded by coral reefs, white sandy beaches, and crystal clear water.  The lodge has a seafront view near the Playon Chico community of Kuna Yala.  Tours to the rainforest, river, mangroves, waterfall, Ukupseni (a Playon Chico community), cemetery and other nearby untouched islands can all be arranged from the lodge should you wish, all included in the price along with meals.

Adventure Tours:

All are subject to weather, physical conditions, schedule, and personal choice.

Not included: traditional fishing when requested on a private trip and tours to other non-specified communities.

Included (fixed timings): Isla Arridup, Isla Diadup, Isla Dupir, Cascada Saibar Maid (please request a day in advance), Diwar Dummad River, tropical forest, mangroves, community of Ukupseni visit and tradicional Cementery.

Nearby Inhabited Islands:

Visit untouched islands close by where you can snorkel, swim, explore or just relax on the white sandy beaches and in the clear water.

Community Visits:

Learn about community everyday life and understand the architecture of local houses and how they are constructed. Visit the congress house (Onmaket Nega) to get a feel of daily village life where community members still go to hold meetings, and sing traditional and religious songs. You can also visit the Chicha house (Inna Nega), where the “chicha fuerte” traditional rites are performed in different ceremonies.

Handicrafts are for sale, all locally made with proceeds benefitting the community – you can purchase items such as the “molas” and other objects like wicker baskets and figures made of different types of material from mahogany to “balso”, “espave”, and “amarillo”.

Mangrove Visits:

Visit what the Kunas refer to as the ‘home of the sardines’ by taking a stroll through the red, black, and white mangroves on the different islands or coastal walks. The ecosystem surrounding the mangroves allows for a great spawning area for diverse marine wildlife, as larvae and small species which grow here are protected by the extensive roots.

A large variety of fish, crayfish and “guabinas” (river fish) survive in these forests, along with other wildlife and birds such as the heron and pelican. Many migratory birds also come here and use this area to rest.

Forest Hikes:

Hike through the nearby primary forests to see an immensely diverse range of flora and fauna.

The Kunas use many flora species to build houses, boats and tools, and also use them artisan’s work and medicine. Ecologists and scientists enjoy visiting this area which covers much of the land as it is so unaltered, which makes it great for study, and for adventurers to see the different types of wild mammals, reptiles, insects and birds in their natural habitat.

River Tour:

On this river tour of Diiwar Dummad or Diiwarak river, near Playon Chico, you can see an incredible visual spectacle of birds and marine life on display. Assuming the weather is nice it’s best to visit in the afternoon to see the animals in their natural environment when most are on view and can be observed.

For even greater diversity you can get up early to see the daybreak birds from a boat in the river. You can see a huge range of species such as “Tangaras”, hummingbirds, gulls, woodpeckers, parrots, macaws, toucans, and pelicans.  You can see many marine birds from Yandup Island Lodge but for bird enthusiasts this is not to be missed.

The Lodge:

It has cabins over the water and seafront cabins. They are equipped with private bathrooms, double/single beds, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, 24 hour electricity powered by solar panels, hammocks and a 360° balcony with an incredible view.

The island also features a dining room over the water, mangroves, Playon Chico community, and Kuna boats for traditional fishing and sailing.
