Nevado Maparaju, also known as Dirty Mountain, is located at the head of the Cayesh Gorge and belongs to the Chinchey Massif. This 5326-meter high mountain is situated in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru, and is considered one of the easiest mountains to climb. Join us on our 3 days 2 nights tour, as we bring you to climb this mountain and be rewarded with spectacular views on the top.
Nevado Maparaju lies within the Huascaran National Park, in the west of Tocllaraju. Most travelers go on this expedition in order to acclimatize, and then be able to reach higher goals or technical levels. The ascent to this peak is considered mild-difficult despite being classified as easy – be very careful in the rocky part before the glacier and passing through the fissure before getting to the glacier!

Day 01: Huaraz – Maparaju Base Camp
You will start from Huaraz and be driven to the entrance of the Quilcayhuanca gorge, where you will start your 5 to 6 hours trail in a wide valley, passing by Llupa and Pitec villages until reaching Cayesh and going south. You will set up camp at the Maparaju Base Camp, 4250 meters above sea level. Then, we will set up camp.
Day 02: Maparaju Base Camp – Summit of Nevado Maparaju – Base CampÂ
Your hike will start at 03:00 am, to reach the top of Maparaju Glacier, 5326 meters above sea level. At the top, prepare for breathtaking panoramic views of the Cayesh mountains: San Juan, Huantsan, Huapi, Chinchay and part of Conchucos. After that, you will start your descent down towards base camp. This will take a total of approximately 5 to 6 hours.
Day 03: Base Camp – HuarazÂ
On the third and last day, you will embark on an easy trail back to the entrance of Quellqueyhuanca, where you will then take a shuttle bus back to Huaraz. This will take approximately 4 to 5 hours in total.
