Day 1: South Valley & Illapampa:
You begin the day with an early morning departure and head off to Quispicanchis province, where the majestic Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain Peru, and other stunning views can be found. You will stop off on the way at two delicately restored colonial churches as well as specific viewpoints to take in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
Arrive at the start point of the trek around midday, where you will first stop for a picnic lunch. After this, you will set off with our expert guide to your campsite for that night, Illapampa. The hike to camp starts with a moderate incline, and then takes you on through gently rolling fields where you will see grazing llamas and alpacas.
At the campsite, you will be near the typical home of an alpaca farmer and his family, and will get to speak to them about their life and how they take care of the lands and livestock. You will sample a delicious and freshly made dinner by our cook who will use all local ingredients, before retiring to your tent for the evening or having a warming hot drink whilst gazing at the clear skies. The altitude of the camp is approximately 4,500 m (14,764 ft).
