Witness the magic of Rainbow Mountain on one of the best hikes in Southern Cusco. Your Ausangate Trek will take you through the wonders of nature, as only Peru can display.

Duration

5 Days/4 Nights

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco-Tinki-Pacchanta
Our bus will head to Tinki early at 5:00 am where we will being our hike. Tinki is full of professional mountain climbers native to the area. From here, we will walk along the plains surrounding the Ausangate mountain. Our final destination for the day will be Pacchanta, a local community of llama and alpaca herders.

Day 2: Pacchanta-Qampa
This day will challenge us with the first climb of our hike towards the Tampa pass (5,000 m). The trail is rocky and difficult, but the stunning views of crystal lakes and glaciers make up for this. Upon arriving to our destination in Qampa, we will have some free time to soak and relax in the local hot springs–a welcomed reward after a hard day.

Day 3: Qampa-Ausangate-Qocha
Today we will continue ascending the Urubamba mountain range toward the the highest part of the trek, the Palomani pass at 5,200 m. From here we will start the slow descent towards our campsite at Puka Qocha. Along the way, the stunning colors of glacier lakes will provide an impressive backdrop for the rest of our day.

Day 4: Pukaqocha-Huampococha-Vinicunca
We will leave Pukaqocha early in the morning to climb, again, to almost 5,200 meters where you will be gifted astonishing views of the Ausangate mountains. In the afternoon, we will finally make it to Vinicunca or “the rainbow mountains” which were formed by thousands of years of accumulation of sandstone sediments. We will pause here to enjoy the magic of the colorful mountains at sunset.

Day 5: Vinicunca/Cusco
After we enjoy the unique morning views of Vinicunca’s colorful mountains, we will head back. Transportation will take us back to Cusco.
