Itinerary

Day 1
Day’s Activities:

Today we will start our Choquequirao Machu Picchu Trail Tour at 5:00 am to meet the staff members before a 4-hour bus ride to Cachora, a town on the outskirts of the Apurimac canyon. We will  begin our trek here and enjoy the dramatic landscapes and diverse flora and fauna along the trail to our campsite at Santa Rosa (1, 650 m).

Difficulty level: Moderate

Meals & Accommodations: We’ll have breakfast en route to Cachora (not included), and camp in tents in Santa Rosa.

Other useful information:
There is a significant altitude change of 1,300 meters between the hike down to the Apurimac Canyon and then up to the site in the clouds. It is a challenging yet amazing experience.

Day 2
Day’s Activities:

We’ll begin the day early at 5:00 am with a challenging, steep ascent from our campsite to the highest point (Maranpata 3,150 m). Afterwards, we will hike through a thick cloud forest towards the Inca site of Choquekirao. Later, we’ll have time to relax and enjoy the archaeological site, plants, animals (hopefully condors), and gorgeous views of nearby canyons and snow-capped mountains (Choquetacarpo –5,910 m). We will camp  in Choquequirao Inca site (3,033 m)

Difficulty level: Very difficult

Accommodations: Campsite at Choquequirao (3,033 m) with an average temperature of 9º C.

Day 3

Day’s Activities:

After a 5:00 am start, we will spend the first half of the day romping around the city of Choquequirao. Later, we will head towards Pinchunulluc, our campsite for the night.

Difficulty level: Very difficult

Day 4
Day’s Activities

We will start the day at 5:00 am with a trek downhill to the Rio Blanco river. Throughout the day we will enjoy the magnificently abundant wildlife such as birds, butterflies, and maybe even a sighting of the famous spectacled bear. In the afternoon, we will begin climbing again until we reach our campsite at Maizal, which in our opinion is one of the most beautiful campsites in the whole Cusco area.

Difficulty level: Very difficult

Day 5

Day’s Activities:

Early in the morning, we will climb to the Qoriwayrachina mountain pass.  We will stop along the way to visit the old silver mines of Qoriwayrachina.

Accommodations: Camping in the picturesque village of Yanama.

Difficulty level: Very difficult

Day 6

Day’s Activities:
We will take a 4-hour bus from Yanama to Hydroelectrica.  After a deliciously satisfying lunch at Hydroelectric, we will walk for a few hours along the Urubamba river toward to Aguas Calientes.

Accommodations: Hotel in Aguas Calientes

Dificulty level: Very difficult

Day 7

Day’s Activities:

We’ll catch the bus to Machu Picchu for a 2 hour, guided walking tour. You can also opt to climb 45 minutes to the top of Huayna Picchu(2,720 m). After exploring Machu Picchu, we will head back to Cusco on the train. This ends our Choquequirao Machu Picchu Trail Tour.
