Description

Choquequirao is much different than Machu Picchu. It sits high in the Andean ridge above the roaring waters of the Apurimac River.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco, Cachora / Chiquisca

You’ll be picked up from the hotel at 5:00 am and transferred in private transportation to Cachora where you can observe the majestic snow-covered peak of Padrayoc. While the group is having breakfast, the crew will get the horses ready for the trek.

The hike on this first day is 16 km (approximately 6 hours). From the viewpoint of Capuliyoc, you will have the chance to see condors. Later, as you descend into the Apurímac Canyon, the vegetation will change from Agave and Tunacactus to a dwarf tree forest. You’ll have lunch at Cocamasana before continuing on to the final destination of the day, Chiquisqa, where you’ll camp in the evening.

Day 2: Chiquisca / Choquequirao Archaeological Site

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll head down into the Apurímac River canyon. After a brief break, you’ll continue the trek up to the archaeological site that lends its name to the Choquequirao Peru tour. On the way, you’ll visit Santa Rosa and have lunch at Maranpata. The campsite at Choquequirao offers a spectacular view of the canyon as well as Andean Condors soaring in the mountains.

Day 3: Choquequirao / Maranpata / Chiquisca

You’ll visit Choquequirao very early. Afterwards, you’ll have breakfast around 9:00 am before packing up to start the walk back to Chiquisqa.

On the way, you will have the chance to see  the Apurimac Canyon once again, and may even be lucky enough to watch the flight of the Condors. You’ll also take in the rich vegetation and its variety of flowers and orchids. You’ll camp at Chiquisca.

Day 4: Chiquisca / Cachora / Cusco

After an early morning breakfast at 5:00 am, you’ll start heading towards the town of Cachora. On the 6 hour hike, you’ll soak in the gorgeous views of the majestic snow-covered peak of Padrayoc that decorates to Apurimac canyon. You’ll catch the bus back to Cusco in Cachora.
