Spend a half-day discovering daily urban life in Cusco in this out-of-the-box experience. This authentic cultural visit with local Cusqueños emphasizes relevant topics from discrimination to environmental problems. Our City Tour Cusco: Cultural Exchange will open your eyes to the rarely seen issues of the locals and give you a new appreciation for life in Peru.
Our City Tour Cusco: Cultural Exchange starts at either 9:00 am or 2:00 pm. First we’ll head to the human settlements or “pueblos jovenes” in the hills of Cusco. Rural people started these communities in search of better economic and educational opportunities. The organization Asociación Pro-Vivienda will welcome us and give us information about the area as well as their work and daily life. You will also have time to ask any questions you may have about daily life in Cusco, the roles of women, country vs. city life and the socio-political situation of families, education, etc.
Later they will take us on a walk to visit several families and local projects whose goal is to better these communities. During the tour, we’ll come to better understand the realities of daily life in this often harsh environment as well as some of the efforts carried out to improve the situation.
We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local family’s house. We will have plenty of time to ask them questions before our return to Cusco.
