Climb up Mountain Vallunaraju in 2 Days and Challenge Your Limits!

Located 5686 meters above sea level, Nevado Vallunaraju is a mountain in the northern part of the Ranrapalca Glacier in the Cordillera Blanca, part of the Andes of Peru. Join us for a 2 days 1 night tour, as we bring you to see this wonder of Mother Nature.

Nevado Vallunaraju (which lies south west of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca) also has another local name – Quechuan, which means the “peak of dreams”. On this tour, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Cordillera Blanca once you reach the top. Also because of its relatively easy access, this is a mountain that many mountaineers prefer.

Miscellaneous: Travelers should possess above average fitness and generally possess good fitness and strength before considering this climb
. Travelers are recommended to have done at least a minimum acclimatization hike of 4 days before going on this tour.

Itinerary

Day 01: Huaraz – Moraine Camp
On the first day, you will leave Huaraz and be driven for 1.5 to 2 hours to Llaca Valley, 4350 meters above sea level and the starting point of your trek. From there, you will hike up for approximately 2 to 3 hours to Moraine Camp until reaching 4760 meters above sea level, where you will be able to take in a view of the mountains such as San Juan, Ranrapalca, Leon Dormido and Ocshapalca. This is also where you will set up tent and stay for the night.

Day 02: Moraine Camp to Summit of Mountain Vallunaraju + Back to Huaraz 
On this second morning, you will start at 04:00 am for your hike, where you will pass through a rocky area before reaching the wider glacier. Then you will hike for approximately 4 hours. The last part involves a steep climb to the summit of the mountain, where you will be rewarded with views of the Ranrapalca, Huantsan and other peaks. Last but not least, you will then start your 2-hour descent back to Moraine Camp, before returning back to Huaraz through Llaca Valley.

Important Notes

  • During the climb, it is recommended to have a healthy and high-calorie diet – hence for lunch, a box lunch is served. Vegetarian dishes can be prepared on request.
  • Minivans or 4×4 off-road vehicles will be used to get to Vallunaraju base camp, depending on the group size.
