After crossing a bridge over the Urubamba River, you’ll walk along the river along a flat terrain to lookout at Miskay where we will have an impressive view of the Inca city of Llactapata. Later, you’ll continue trekking in the Kusichaca River valley, gradually climbing for about five hours until you reach the first campsite in the community of Wayllabamba.

Meals Included: Box-lunch, Dinner
Total distance: 12 km (7, 47 miles)
Estimated walking time: 5-6 hours
Maximum altitude point: 3000m (9840 ft)

Day 2: Wayllabamba – Pacaymayo

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll embark on the most difficult part of the trek: a steep ascent spanning 9 km. On the way to the first mountain pass, the Abra Warmihuañusca (“Dead Woman’s Pass”), you will have the chance to see some llamas and alpacas grazing on a high altitude plant called ichu. You will also pass through the cloud forest which is home to the Andean bear and many different kinds of birds. It is recommended that you carry plenty of candies, chocolates and coca leaves to keep your sugar level high and help with altitude sickness. Later, you’ll head down into the Pacaymayu valley to set up camp.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Total distance: 11 km (6.84 miles)
Estimated walking time: 6-7 hours
Maximum altitude point: 4200m (13776 ft)

Day 3: Pacaymayo – Wiñay Wayna

After breakfast, you’ll head up to the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As you reach the second pass, the beautiful snowy peaks of the Pumasillo range will greet you. Later, you’ll pass Yanacocha and the cloud forest on the way to Sayacmarca. This beautiful semicircular construction has multi-leveled enclosures, narrow streets, fountains, patios and irrigation canals.

Then, you’ll easily climb to the third pass at Abra Phuyupatamarca. Finally our day’s trek will take us down the long stone steps to Wiñaywayna, an impressive Inca agricultural center with several terraces and both religious and urban sectors.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Total distance: 16 km (9.94 miles)
Estimated walking time: 8 hours
Maximum altitude point: 3900m (12792 ft)

Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Visit Machu Picchu – Back to Cusco

You’ll start the day bright and early at 4:00 am. Then, we’ll go on an hour climb to the top of the Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From this fabulous spot, you will have the chance to see the sunrise over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu. From here you’ll descend into Machu Picchu, entering through the “House of the Guardians.”

You’ll register and drop our backpacks at the control point. Immediately afterwards, you will start our 2 hour guided tour of the Inca citadel. Later, you’ll have free time to walk around and explore the rest of the grounds. In the afternoon, you will meet up with the group in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Cusco.
