After spending some time in this amazing place surrounded by old Sauco trees, we’ll continue walking to our first campsite, among the amazing ruins built on the top of the waterfall. We will have astonishing views of the entire Valley that we trekked that day as we rest, have dinner and camp for the night.
We’ll start the day with a nice hot breakfast to get ready for our hike. Afterward, we’ll start our ascent to the mountain pass that will bring us to the flat highland. We will have lunch just before the pass, soaking in the incredible views. After the pass, we’ll walk through an area with amazing lunar type scenery, full of local fauna from the highlands of the Andes, surrounded by small rivers and lakes, to our campsite for the day.
After breakfast at our campsite, we’ll start the day walking though a flat area that will bringing us to the end of the plateau. After lunch, we’ll continue our way down through the Cacchhitata Quarries, where we’ll spend some time admiring the fine stone work of the Incas and the amazing thumbs that you can find here. We will continue walking following a path nicknamed the “Sleeping Stones”, these stones along the path were abandoned by the Incas once the Spaniards arrived in Ollantaytambo and prevented the Incas from finishing the construction of their temple.
