Come experience the beauty of the rain forest in Peru without breaking the bank. You will get to know its diverse flora and fauna in an environmentally and socially responsible way. Your stays at eco-lodges will help you authentically learn about the local way of life. The Iquitos Amazon Tour is the perfect way to dive into the authentic culture of Peru.
You can participate in several activities on this adventurous, yet relaxing tour. If you’re looking to connect with nature you can participate in jungle farming or go on a trek or nature excursion. If you are looking for more of an intercultural exchange, you will have the opportunity to visit a floating community and a social project. You’ll also stay in family-style eco-lodges as the locals do.
To ensure your stay is as authentic and enriching as possible, we have chosen to stay at an eco-lodge surrounded by nature. The lodge is ecologically built according to the local style so it is quite basic and not luxurious like a typical lodge. This locally and family-owned paradise is very close to Iquitos but you’ll still feel like you’re in the middle of the rain forest.
This jungle farm encourages both visitors as well as locals to immerse themselves in the environment in order to discover the gift of nature, the wonders of the Amazon, and the customs and traditions of indigenous people. Visitors will stay in partially-open, shared rooms that will draw you closer to nature as you relax and listen to the sounds of the jungle. All of the beds are equipped with mosquito nets to help ensure a pleasant and relaxing stay.
3 Days/2 Nights
Day 1: Amazonian cooking class and a visit to a nearby town
Early in the morning, your local Iquitos Amazon guide for the next three days will welcome you to Iquitos and will take you to the eco-lodge. While enjoying fresh juice, your guide will give you an overview of the program and more information about your new home base for the next couple of days. After some free time to relax and expore, you will participate in an Amazon food cooking class in the beautiful open kitchen.
After lunch, you’ll head to the “Delfin” community to visit and learn more about a non-profit’s social and environmental projects. You’ll also have some time to play soccer or volleyball with the kids there. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a delicious local fish dinner with the sounds of the forest as your background music. You will also have the chance to go on an adventurous night walk to look for spiders and other nocturnal creatures!
Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Day 2: Iquitos, Belen floating town and market, nature trekking
We will wake up early to watch for birds and other animals as we enjoy our breakfast in the middle of the jungle. Then we will head back to the farm where we will rest up for a decent trek through the forest all the way to the city of Iquitos. Later, you’ll have time to explore the Amazon River and the very interesting, often bizarre and quirky city of Belen. While there, you will visit the lively market where you’ll come across products that you have never seen or even heard of before. Finally you will visit the city’s floating neighborhood.
After a jam-packed morning of activities, you’ll have some free time to explore the city on your own and have lunch. After exploring, you’ll take an old city bus back to the lodge with your guide for dinner. At the end of the day, your hosts will share some of their favorite jungle stories with you as you relax in the serene forest.
Meals included: Breakfast and dinner
Day 3: Life on the jungle farm
On the final day of the tour, we’ll learn about fruits and medicinal plants first hand as we participate in farm life for the day. We’ll even see how sugar cane juice is made! We’ll take our last walk through the forest to discover more about the trees, the moon’s influence, and agriculture. You might even get to plant your own tree too.
