Located on the Peruvian Andes and as the largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca, Lake Paron (4150 meters above sea level) is nested and surrounded by several snow peaks such as Aguja, Chacraraju and Caraz. It is one of the most popular areas for climbing in Peru – join us on this full-day trek up Lake Paron, where you will get to visit this lake…. on a donkey!
Lake Paron, formed as a natural moraine reservoir, is within the borders of the Huascaran National Park. The high concentrations of dissolved lime gives the water of Lake Parón a turquoise color, and today, this route up to see this lake is a popular day hike for those who seek to acclimatize themselves for tougher hikes in this region.
On this day tour, you will be driven through the villages of Carhuaz, Yungay and Caraz, before arriving at your starting point. Mounting a donkey, you will take approximately 3 hours to reach the top, rewarded with views of Mount Huandoy, Gracilazo and Caraz along the way. After staying for some time at the lake to enjoy the view, you will then return back to Huaraz.
