Day 1 – Hike and Appreciate the Native Vegetation and Scenery
We will pick you up at your hotel at 5:30 am, then take you by private bus on a 1 hour and 20 minute trip to the breakfast location. There, you can change into your trekking clothes. After breakfast, you will get back on the bus for another 15 minutes to arrive to the true beginning of your Lares Trek 4 Days to Machu Picchu. You will walk for 3 hours on a dirt road with some loose stones, surrounded by native vegetation.
Then, you will take a break for lunch and continue for another 3 hours on a nice path to the campsite. This region is home to ice-topped mountains and beautiful lakes. Around the lakes, there are native trees called paper trees, which can grow in elevations up to 16,404 feet (5,000 meters). The day’s walking adds up to 7 hours, covering 8.7 miles (14 kilometers).
Day 2 – See Two Lakes on the Way to Aroray Pass and Relax in Hot Springs
After waking up at 5:30 am and having breakfast, your Lares Trek 4 Days continues as you hike a gentle uphill for 3 hours. You will pass by two lakes on the way up the Aroray Pass (15,092 feet /4,600 meters). Here, you will enjoy outstanding views and see llamas, alpacas, and geese along the way.
After a group photo, you will continue down for 40 minutes to the lunch location. You will have lunch and some time to rest. Then, you will continue on a gentle downhill for 4 hours to the last campsite, located beside a natural volcanic hot spring. You will be able to enjoy its many pools and modern bathrooms. Let the warm water relax your muscles and look at the stars! The total hiking today is 8 hours, 10.6 miles (17 kilometers).
Day 3 – Drive to the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site and Take the Train to Aguas Calientes
After breakfast and goodbyes to the cooking team, you will go by private car for 3 hours to the Ollantaytambo archaeological site. You have the option of taking a tour at this site. Then, you will have lunch in a restaurant and take the 19:00 pm train for 2 hours to the town of Aguas Calientes. The train takes you to the beginning of the Amazon jungle, passing through many tunnels. You will spend the night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Day 4 – Visit One of the New Seven Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu
Wake up at 4:30 am and go to the bus terminal with your private tour guide. The bus will take you to Machu Picchu. You will then go on a 2-hour guided tour of the historical site and have a couple hours of free time to explore.
You have several options for your free time. You can go on a 1.5-hour round-trip hike to the Sun Gate for free. Another option is climbing Huaynapicchu Mountain. This is a 2-hour round-trip hike and requires advance booking and an additional fee because entrance is restricted. You can do this hike without a guide, as the trail is well marked. The third option, hiking Machu Picchu Mountain, takes 4 hours round trip and also requires advance booking and an additional fee.
Next, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). After that, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and a private bus back to Cusco. Your Lares Trek 4 Days to Machu Picchu tour will come to an end as you arrive to your hotel around 19:00 pm.
