The Authentic City Tour Lima will take you to interesting places beyond the typical touristy Miraflores and the historic colonial center so that you can see Lima in a unique, authentic way. Besides picking up up many fascinating social and cultural facts, you will have the opportunity to experience how Lima’s diverse inhabitants live their daily lives.
If you only have a short time in Lima, don’t miss out on this truly genuine experience. In addition to a stop at one of world’s biggest cemeteries, you’ll visit one of Lima’s human settlements and witness the lasting effects of the migration in the late 1900’s towards the hills of Lima. The people there are among the most hard-working, yet poorest in Lima. However, instead of poverty, our visit will focus on hope, optimism, and positive initiatives.
One of the highlights of the tour is the intercultural exchange that occurs in visiting and interacting with several locals. For example, a local guide will show us around her neighborhood on the slopes of the sandy hills of Lima’s outskirts. Additionally, she will show us some of the innovative social and environmental projects that a local NGO has set up.
After enjoying a delicious lunch at a local’s home, we will visit a few other families that will show you unique and special things. Throughout the afternoon, we will learn about daily life in this harsh environment as well as some of the existing efforts to improve the situation. Depending on the day, we may be able to participate in the NGO’s workshops and witness the fantastic work they’re doing with local kids, teenagers and adults!
