Itinerary

Day 1: International Arrival in Lima

Your transportation from Lima International airport to your hotel will be set up upon arrival. Once at the hotel, you will be provided with more detailed information about your Peru travel package tour and its included service vouches.

Day 2: Lima Sightseeing Tour

You’ll have the morning to relax and rest up for the amazing trip ahead.

After lunch on your own, you’ll be picked up from the hotel at 1:30 pm for a guided tour to the “City of Kings.” This excursion shows you the best of Lima through pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary times.

Day 3: Flight to Puno / Visit Sillustani

You’ll have breakfast at the hotel before heading to the airport for your flight to Juliaca (Puno).  On the way to the city of Puno, you’ll visit the famous Chullpas of Sillustani, 12 meter high stone cylinders that the Aymaras used to bury their important leaders. Lake Umayo further enhances the beauty of this place. Here you will also have the opportunity to observe wild guinea pigs, birds, and other local wildlife.

Day 4: Lake Titicaca | Uros Floating Islands and Taquile Island

As part of the complete Peru travel package, this trip includes a homestay. You’ll have breakfast with the family at your homestay before leisurely strolling through the quaint streets of this colorful island.

Late morning, you’ll take a motorboat to Taquile Island which is inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand-weaving techniques through time. To get to the town of Taquile, it is necessary to go up a stairway of more than 567 steps. After lunch, you’ll walk through the various hills and archaeological sites of this 6 km long island before returning to Puno.

Day 5: Bus to Cusco

Today, you’ll have breakfast at the hotel before taking a scenic bus ride to Cusco. Along the way, you’ll stop to visit several archaeological sites as well as the famous “Sixteen Chapel” in the village of Andahuaylillas that dates back to the 17th century. You’ll have lunch in Sicuani and spend the night at Cusco Hotel.

Day 6: Cusco / Sacred Valley of the Incas

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have a full day of your Peru travel package trip to visit the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas as well as the Pisaq and Ollantaytambo archaeological sites. First, you’ll stop at the village of Qorao to take pictures of the gorgeous landscapes. Then you’ll head to Pisaq, an archaeological site and Indian market.

After lunch in the Sacred Valley, you’ll visit the Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo that once protected the entrance to this part of the Valley from possible invasion from the other tribes. In the afternoon, you’ll head back to Cusco.

Day 7: Cusco / Km 82 / Wayllabamba

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll hit the road at 6:00 am to another highlight of a complete Peru package tour: the Classic Inca Trail. After crossing a bridge over the Urubamba River, you’ll walk along the river along a flat terrain to lookout at Miskay where we will have an impressive view of the Inca city of Llactapata. Later, you’ll continue trekking in the Kusichaca River valley, gradually climbing for about five hours until you reach the first campsite in the community of Wayllabamba.

Day 8: Wayllabamba / Pacaymayu

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll embark on the most difficult part of the trek: a steep ascent spanning 9 km. On the way to the first mountain pass, the Abra Warmihuañusca (“Dead Woman’s Pass”), you will have the chance to see some llamas and alpacas grazing on a high altitude plant called ichu. You will also pass through the cloud forest which is home to the Andean bear and many different kinds of birds. It is recommended that you carry plenty of candies, chocolates and coca leaves to keep your sugar level high and help with altitude sickness. Later, you’ll head down into the Pacaymayu valley to set up camp.

Day 9: Pacaymayu / Wiñay Wayna

After breakfast, you’ll head up to the small Inca site of Runkuracay. As you reach the second pass, the beautiful snowy peaks of the Pumasillo range will greet you. Later, you’ll pass Yanacocha and the cloud forest on the way to Sayacmarca. This beautiful semicircular construction has multi-leveled enclosures, narrow streets, fountains, patios and irrigation canals.

Then, you’ll easily climb to the third pass at Abra Phuyupatamarca. Finally our day’s trek will take us down the long stone steps to Wiñaywayna, an impressive Inca agricultural center with several terraces and both religious and urban sectors.

Day 10: Wiñay Wayna / Machu Picchu

You’ll start the day bright and early at 4:00 am. Then, we’ll go on an hour climb to the top of the Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From this fabulous spot, you will have the chance to see the sunrise over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu. No Peru travel package would be complete without a visit here.

From here you’ll descend into Machu Picchu, entering through the “House of the Guardians.” Once in Machu Picchu, you’ll register and drop our backpacks at the control point. Immediately afterwards, you will start our 2 hour guided tour of the Inca citadel. Later, you’ll have free time to walk around and explore the rest of the grounds. In the afternoon, you will meet up with the group in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Cusco.

Day 11: Free day in Cusco by yourself

You’ll have breakfast at the hotel and then enjoy a free day in Cusco on your own.

Day 12: Arrival to Puerto Maldonado / Posada Amazonas

You’ll have breakfast at the hotel before your flight to Puerto Maldonado. An English-speaking guide will greet you upon arrival.  Later, you’ll take a short drive to the Tambopata River Port. The less than 3 hour boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Posada Amazonas will take you past the indigenous community of Infierno and the Tambopata National Reserve’s checkpoint which acts as a buffer zone with its 1.3 million hectare conservation unit. Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips.

When the day ends, the Peru travel package adventures don’t stop. You will be out at night at the river’s edge scanning the shores with headlamps and flashlights to catch the red gleams of reflection from caiman eyes.

Day 13: Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake / Ethnobotanical Tour

Tres Chimbadas is thirty minutes by boat and forty-five minutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin, and horned screamers.

Later, a twenty-minute boat drive downriver leads you to a trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape. The Centro Ñape is a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. They have established a trail to explain the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants. Night walk: You will have the option to participate in a night hike.

Day 14: Parrot clay lick / Ceiba Trail Hike

Today, your Peru travel package tour continues with a visit a parrot clay lick that is only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas. If the morning is clear, you will get the chance to witness dozens of parrots and parakeets descend to ingest the clay on the river bank.

You’ll also embark on a two hour hike crowned by the largest tree in the vicinity: the giant ceiba tree. During the hike you will focus on the natural history of the rain forest and its principal taxonomic groups. Then you’ll take a thirty minute boat ride down the river to visit a farm in the community of Infierno. The owner grows a wide variety of Amazon crops. In his garden, just about every plant and tree serves a purpose.

Day 15: Departure from Lodge / Lima International departure

As your Peru travel package trip comes to a close, you’ll retrace your river and road journey back to Puerto Maldonado to the office. From there, you will head to the airport for your flight to Lima and then any connecting flights home. Depending on airline schedules, this may require dawn departures.
