This Machu Picchu Inca Trail tour includes the highlights of Cusco and a hike through the Sacred Valley and along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After enjoying the ruins at Machu Picchu for a full day, you will visit a community tourism project to learn about local agricultural practices and enjoy a meal of traditional food. Around here, you will also see some of the other iconic Inca ruins that overlook Cusco.

Day 1 – Tour of Cusco
If you are just arriving, your guide will pick you up from the Cusco airport and bring you to your hotel, providing you with a an orientation of the city and an overview of your upcoming trip during the drive. After allowing you some time to get refreshed, you will join your guide for lunch and a walking tour of Cusco. The tour includes:

Day 2 – Sacred Valley
Your guide and a driver will meet you at your hotel in the morning to head out to the Sacred Valley. The first stop is Moray, an archaeological site which we think the Incas used for agricultural research. Here, you will have excellent views of the Sacred Valley and will see impressively constructed concentric stone terraces inside of natural depressions.
You will then take a leisurely hike to the Salineras – a series of terraced, spring-fed salt pans that are built into the mountain. Here, you will have a chance to see locals harvesting salt and preparing the pans in the traditional way.
After the Salineras, you will have a picnic lunch and head over to the quaint town of Ollantaytambo, where canals run along stone-paved streets and stone buildings that were constructed by the Incas. You will have the evening free to get dinner and explore Ollantaytambo.

Day 3 – Short Inca Trail
You will depart in the morning for a spectacular hike along the famous Inca Trail! The first step is going from Ollantaytambo to kilometer 104 – the official starting point of the Inca Trail. On this hike, you will see gorgeous nature, visit the ruins of Wiñaywayna, and the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From the Gate, you will have your first views of Machu Picchu from above, before descending into Aguas Calientes. Here, you will have a chance to check into your hotel and relax a little before enjoying dinner in a local restaurant and resting up for your day at Machu Picchu!

Day 4 – Machu Picchu
After breakfast this morning, you will board a bus to the gates of the legendary Machu Picchu! Your guide will take you on a 2.5-3 hour private tour and leave you option in the afternoon to either explore on your own or climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (additional cost – please enquire when you book this tour). In the late afternoon, you will descend to Aguas Calientes and catch a return train to Ollantaytambo. A driver will be waiting for you at the station to bring you to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 5 – Cusco and Continue Your Adventure!
If you are flying out today, a driver will bring you to the Cusco airport. If not, enjoy the rest of your time in Cusco and do not hesitate to reach out for recommendations!

This tour is based on permit availability. You can check Inca Trail permit availability here. If permits are sold out the day you would like to hike, the operator can substitute a lovely hike in the Sacred Valley.
