This 2 day Inca Trail tour to Machu Picchu is an alternative, time-friendly option to the Traditional 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Although it is shorter, it still provides great opportunities to enjoy along the way such as the Inca Trail and the Sun Gate.
2 Days/1 Night
Day 1
CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CHACHABAMBA – WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHU PICCHU
The tour starts with early morning transportation from you hotel to the train station. While you are on the train to the trail head, your guide will point out various mountains and other landscapes in the valley. After a two hour ride, we will exit the train at the 104 km marker.
After a brief rest, we will begin our hike at 2,250 meters of elevation at the archaeological site, Chachabamba. From there, we will ascend gradually for about three hours towards the captivating archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna, at 2,650 m. As we learn about the site, we will eat lunch there and delight in its charm.
After our break, we will continue through the semi-tropical forest in the direction of Intipunku (the Sun Gate) where we will enjoy the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu’s citadel. We will spend some time here truly appreciating the impressive mountains and deep valleys that surround the Sun Gate as well as the Urubamba River. Then, we will walk for 45 more minutes until we arrive at the check point at Machu Picchu. After enjoying Machu Picchu, we will spend the night in Aguas Calientes.
Day 2
AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Today, you will be have the choice between waking up at 4:30 am and walking up to Machu Picchu or taking a bus to Machu Picchu. Once there, you will take a 2 hour tour. Later, you will be free to explore the citadel and capture its beauty in pictures. In the afternoon, you will meet us at the train station in Aguas Calientes in order to head back to Ollantaytambo. We will pick you up from there and take you back to Cuzco by bus.

Difficulty degree of this trek: Altitude makes it challenging. We recommend an acclimatization period of at least 2 days in Cusco or over 3000m/9840ft.
