Hike through the Amazing Nevado Alpamayo in Perú

The Nevado Alpamayo is a mountain in the Andes mountain range, that’s located in the Peruvian territory. Come with us and lets hike “The Most Beautiful Mountain in the World” according to the magazine Alpinismus (May of 1966).

In this 6 days/5 nights hiking expedition we will go to Cashapampa, Santa Cruz valley, Quisuar, Ruta Ferrari wall, and many other amazing places.

Day 1

We will pick-up at 6:00 am at your hotel with our private transport. From here we will take the north of Huaraz, heading to Callejón de Huaylas, and on this route we will pass through different towns such as Carhuaz, Yungay and, Caraz. Then we will continue our way until we reach the District of Cashapampa. We will be arriving Cashapampa, at 10:00 am, in this place, the donkeys and muleteers are waiting for us, they will be in charge of transporting the scalding and camping material. We will start walking uphill for 2 hours and a half and on the way, we will have lunch. Finally, we continue for a few more hours until we reach our first camp called Llamacorral.

Day 2

We will have breakfast and then we will walk along Santa Cruz Valley, and during the journey, we will enjoy the amazing turquoise lakes called Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha. We will arrive at Quisuar where we will have lunch and then continue the walk to the Base Camp of Alpamayo.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will dismount the camp and prepare our things with mountain equipment. The porters will be in charge of the transportation of food and tents. From here we will begin to climb for about 3 hours along a rocky road until we reach the Morrena Field, where we will enjoy splendid views of the mountains Artesonraju (6025), Paria (5519), and Pucajirca (6046).

After this, we will equip ourselves correctly and get ready to climb the glacier for 4 hours until we reach Campo I.  Here we will have dinner and rest.

Day 4

Our day starts at 1:00 am, we will rope ourselves up and walk for 1 hour the glacier until we reach the Ruta Ferrari wall, the ascent begins with 55 ° to 75 °, 500 m approximately of wall, after 7 – 8 hours of climbing we will reach the summit where we will have impressive views of the peaks of Cordillera Blanca.

The descent we will do it via rappel with the help of our expert guide, and we will arrive at the Camp at approximately 11:00 a.m. Here we will have a well-deserved rest and snack. After this, we will make the descent to base camp.

Day 5

After breakfast, we will dismount the camp, prepare our things and the mountain equipment so that the muleteer takes them. The descent allows us to return by the Santa Cruz ravine, we will pass by the lagoons of Jatuncocha and Ichiccocha. Finally, we reached Llamacorral, our campsite.

Day 6

After breakfast, we start the walk downhill along the Santa Cruz Valley until we reach the town of Cashapampa where private transportation awaits us to move to the city of Huaraz.
