Located 5686 meters above sea level, Nevado Vallunaraju is a mountain in the northern part of the Ranrapalca Glacier in the Cordillera Blanca, part of the Andes of Peru. Join us for a 2 days 1 night tour, as we bring you to see this nature wonder.

Nevado Vallunaraju (which lies south west of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca) also has another local name – Quechuan, which means the “peak of dreams”. On this tour, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Cordillera Blanca once you reach the top. Also because of its relatively easy access, this is a mountain that many mountaineers prefer.

Tour Information

Duration: 2 Days 1 Night
Start/End location: Huaraz, Peru
Availability: Year-round
The difficulty level of this tour is set at “Easy – Moderate”. Travelers are recommended to have done at least one day acclimatization hike before going on this tour.


Day 01: Huaraz – Moraine Camp
On the first day, you will leave Huaraz and be driven for 1.5 to 2 hours to the starting point of your trek. From there, you will hike up for approximately 3 hours to Moraine Camp until reaching 4800 meters above sea level, where you will be able to take in a view of the Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca peaks. This is also where you will set up tent and stay for the night.

Day 02: Moraine Camp to Summit of Mountain Vallunaraju + Back to Huaraz 
On this second morning, you will start at 02:00 am for your hike, where you will pass through several moraines before reaching the wider glacier. The last part involves climbing to the summit of the mountain, where you will be rewarded with views of the Ranrapalca, Huantsan and other peaks. Then, you will start your 5-hour descent down to Moraine Camp, before returning back to Huaraz.
