Itinerary

Day 1 – Discover the Jungle Lodge, Visit Monkey Island, and See Native Alligators
Your tour starts as we welcome you at Puerto Maldonado. Then, you will go to the river port to ride a motorboat through the jungle, straight to the Puerto Maldonado lodge. As soon as you get there, you will have some breakfast and settle in to your accommodations in bungalows. There are single and double rooms available. After a short break, you will go for a walk in the jungle and return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go down the river on a motorboat for 30 minutes to Monday Island. There, you can see a variety of monkeys and other wildlife. When it starts to get dark, you will return to the lodge. On the way back, you will have an hour to observe the native alligators as they bask on the riverbank. Finally, you will enjoy dinner and rest at the lodge.

Day 2 – Canoe on Sandoval Lake and Go on a Night Jungle Tour
After a peaceful night in the jungle lodge, woken by singing birds in the morning, you will have breakfast and get ready for the day’s tour. It starts with a 30-minute motorboat ride, then time to walk through Tambopata National Amazonia Reserve, a national park with the beautiful Sandoval Lake.

You will walk for 2 hours to the lake, admiring wildlife along the way. Then, you will get to ride in a wooden canoe around the lake, then walk back to the riverbank. The fauna here is spectacular. You can see monkeys, otters, wild geese, and sometimes alligators. Peru is home to the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, with 3,700 known species.

Lunch will be at the Puerto Maldonado lodge. In the afternoon, you will have free time. You can relax in the swinging hammocks or wander around the lodge, enjoying some drinks at the lodge bar before dinner. At night, you will go on a jungle walk close to the lodge to find nocturnal animals. To finish off the day, enjoy dinner.

Day 3 – Marvel at the Colorful Parrots at a Clay Lick and Return to Puerto Maldonado
For the final day of your tour, we will wake you up very early to enjoy the sunrise on a boat. On this 1-hour boat ride, you will look for macaws and other parrot species, from small to big. You will find these colorful birds at the cliffs on the riverbanks, licking the clay. Parrots lick the clay for its minerals, which help them eliminate toxins they ingest from eating unripe seeds.

Afterward, you will go back to the Puerto Maldonado lodge for a plentiful breakfast. Then, you will leave the jungle lodge by motorboat to return to Puerto Maldonado. In Puerto Maldonado, you can find many restaurants, coffee shops, and gift shops. From there, you can take a bus or airplane to Cusco.
