This trail is not as well-known as the Inca Trail and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Come join us for an unforgettable trek in the breathtaking Andes!
Duration: 6-8 hours
Start and end location: Ollantaytambo
You will start your hike from Ollantaytambo (2,850 meters) at about 9:00 am. From there, you will cross the Urubamba River via an Inca bridge at the town entrance. After that, you will walk on a road past Inca terraces, then start the true uphill climb.
After going up for a couple of hours, you will spot the famous “Sleeping Stones” that mark a new path. These stones were left halfway on the journey from the quarries to the Temple of Ollantaytambo when the Spanish arrived and the Incas left.
Next, you will continue going up to get to the Cacchicata Quarries (11,663 feet / 3,555 meters). You will enjoy your box lunch while admiring the gorgeous view of the Sacred Valley.
After lunch, you will hike up to Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol) at an elevation of 12,749 feet (3,886 meters). From there, you will marvel at the fantastic panoramic views of the Sacred Valley, including the magnificent snow-capped Veronica Mountain. Finally, you will descend and return to Ollantaytambo.
