This tour is perfect if you are short on time but want to get in a challenging high altitude trek near Cusco! This incredibly scenic trek begins and ends at C’ochas and follows the Quelccaya Ice Cap – the largest glaciated area in the tropics. This is not a common route, which usually means solitude, and definitely means physical challenges, high altitude, and incredible and uninterrupted views of mighty mountains and glaciers!
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco for an early morning departure to the trailhead at C’ochas. The drive is approximately 5 hours, with the last 3 hours on a remote dirt road. You will enjoy lunch when you arrive and then begin the trek across a valley filled with alpacas, llamas, and multi-colored pools created by glacial melt. After crossing a river, you will begin the climb to Bajo Huancanay (4,755 meters; 15,600 feet) and camp for the night.
Duration: 5hrs/ 11km (6.8 miles)

After breakfast, you will continue climbing until you get to Alto Huancanay (5,150 meters; 16,900 feet) – the current border of the Quelccaya Ice Cap. You will spend the day exploring the glaciers, before returning to camp at Bajo Huancanay.

You will begin your hike back to C’ochas in the early morning, where your private transport back to Cusco will be waiting to bring you back to your hotel. You will arrive in the early evening.
