Spend the day learning about Amazonian local life and some of the region’s most important ecological efforts!
Join us on an amazing day trip and make your Amazon experience truly unforgettable! You’ll have the chance to explore very different experiences, including modern Amazonian culture at the Belén Market, wildlife at a Manatee Rescue Center, and the natural beauty of the Quistococha park!
First, we’ll stop by the marvelous floating city and market of Belén to get a feel for the local flavor. Then, we’ll take a boat ride on the Itaya River as we search for the Victoria Regia, or giant water lily, along the way. We’ll return to Iquitos for lunch.
After lunch we will go to the Manatee Rescue Center at Acobia-Dwazoo. This rehabilitation and information center is of utmost important in the region as the Amazonian manatee is an endangered species in Peru despite existing national and international laws that protect it. There is also an illegal market of selling baby manatees as pets, and the mortality rate is high.
Finally, we will visit the Quistococha park’s lake, beach, and zoo before heading back to Iquitos after a fun-filled and educational day.
