The Nevado Ranrapalca is located north of Huaraz, and it’s an amazing mountain that has all that we need to have an amazing climbing experience. All your effort will be worth it when you get to the summit of the Ranrapalca and get the chance to admire the amazing view of the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negra in the same place, just breathtaking.

Day 01: Huaraz – Base Camp Ishinca 4350 m / 14,271 ft
Our expedition starts with us driving from Huaraz to Cochabamba, here our donkey driver will be waiting for us. Once we get our thing on the donkey, we will begin our walk through a forest of Quenuales till we get to Base Camp

Day 02: Base camp – High Camp 5200 m / 17,060 ft 
We will take the route to the Ishinca Glacier, using a zigzag trail to the col, that’s located between the Ranrapalca and Ishinca glaciers, this is where we will set our camp.

Day 03: High Camp – Summit Ranrapalca 6162 m / 20,216 ft– Base Camp 
Our day starts at 01:00 am, with a zigzag trail to the 240m wall which we will climb. We will be able to enjoy a panoramic view at the top. Then, we will go back down to base camp.

Day 04: Base camp – Huaraz 
On the last day, we will have an easy walk to Cochapampa and will go back to Huaraz in our vehicle.

What to Bring

  • Small backpack, sleeping bag (-10º to 0ºC) and a small daypack
  • Long-sleeved shirts and lightweight pants
  • Cotton short-sleeved shirts or t-shirts
  • Fleece or Wool sweater and/or trousers
  • Regular and long underwear (at over 13,000 ft./4,000 masl)
  • Medium weight parka with fiberfill or down
  • Light cap and wool hat and light gloves
  • Rain poncho (or rain gear)
  • Medium weight socks and hiking boots
  • Strong waterproof duffel bag
  • Sunglasses, Sunblock, lip balm, and water bottle
  • Flashlight with spare batteries and bulb

Important Notes

  • We recommend you to do at least a 1-Day hike in altitude to be acclimatized before doing this tour.
