You will depart in the morning and stop first at the archaeological site of Moray, which we think the Incas used as an agricultural research site. Here, you will have excellent views of the Sacred Valley and will see impressively constructed concentric stone terraces inside of natural depressions.
You will then take a leisurely hike to the Salineras – a series of terraced, spring-fed salt pans that are built into the mountain. Here, you will have a chance to see locals harvesting salt and preparing the pans in the traditional way.
After the Salineras, you will have a picnic lunch and head over to the quaint town of Ollantaytambo, where canals run along stone-paved streets and stone buildings that were constructed by the Incas. You will have the evening free to get dinner and explore Ollantaytambo.
Included Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After an early breakfast, you will head into Cusco’s high jungle. This begins with a drive through the Malaga Pass, from where you will have an incredible panoramic view. You will then descend into the jungle valley below, where you will be greeted by your host family and enjoy a home-cooked lunch. After a rest, you will tour an organic farm, where they grow coffee, cacao, and a huge variety of tropical fruit. You will learn how cacao is grown, harvested, and made into chocolate!
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
You will enjoy breakfast with your host family and then wave goodbye and begin a scenic hike along the original Inca Trail. During the hike, you will stop to learn about how coca is made, and the plant’s historical and cultural significance in the Andes mountains. The hike ends at the Colcamayo hot springs, where you will have lunch and relax in the springs before heading to your next host family, who lives on a coffee farm!
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Wake up and have breakfast on a coffee farm! This morning, you will tour the farm and learn about how coffee is harvested and about how artisans produce coffee. You will also get a chance to roast and grind some coffee and then enjoy a cup that you made yourself! After a meal with your host family, you will take a 2-3 hour hike to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. During the hike, you will get your first glimpse of the ruins!
Included Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After breakfast this morning, you will board a bus to the gates of the legendary Machu Picchu! Your guide will take you on a 2.5-3 hour private tour and leave you option in the afternoon to either explore on your own or climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (additional cost – please enquire when you book this tour). In the late afternoon, you will descend to Aguas Calientes and catch a return train to Ollantaytambo. A driver will be waiting for you at the station to bring you to your hotel in Cusco.
