Spend 5 days and 4 nights on an incredible Vilcabamba Trek to Machu Picchu. This trip will allow you to see an amazing combination of important Inca ruins and diverse natural scenery.

The Vilcabamba trek is a great alternative to the Inca trail. You will be able to experience hiking along traditional Inca roads, ruins and tropical glaciers. Vilcabamba is the original capital of the Incas that were left behind after the Spanish conquest.

Duration: 5 Days, 4 Nights

Tour Start & End Point: Day 1 starts in Cusco, and day 5 ends in Cusco.

On the first day, you will be picked up at your hotel early and travel to Huancacalle – the departure point for the trek. You will pass through the famous Ollantaytambo and continue on to the beautiful Abra Malaga at which point you continue onto Huancacalle. Before embarking on the trail you will break for lunch and your first stops on this trek will be the ruins of Vitcos and Nusta Hispana.

Your guide will take you on a tour of these beautiful ruins and then take you along the original Inca trail. After about two hours you will stop for the first night at the campsite.
Duration: 3 hours/ 6 Km



Day two will start with an early breakfast and you will begin walking along the awe-inspiring Inca trail. Four hours into the trail you will arrive at the famous Totora Huayco at 1890m which offers beautiful views. Afterward, you will ascend for one hour to Jasutina Pass where you will break for lunch with the group. You will have the opportunity to observe the surrounding snow-capped mountains from the lunch spot and from there you will begin the descent for 3 hours to Racachaca where you will camp for the second night and have incredible views of Lasoma peak.
Duration:7 hours / 12 Km



For this day you will climb three different unique passes and then proceed a descent to the campsite. This will be one of the more challenging of days and, from the campsite, you will ascend for around two and a half hours to Yanacocha Pass and reach the Lake.

After reaching and taking in the views of the lake you will climb the second pass at Tullutacanca and continue the ascent for two hours surrounded by high alpine lakes and meadows to the final pass of Abra Mojon. Once you reach Abra Mojon you will begin the descent for about an hour to break for lunch and head towards Mutuypata where you will descend for two more hours and that is where you will break for camp.
Duration: 9 hours/14 Km


Mutuypata-Aguas Calientes

The morning of day four will begin with approximately three hours of hiking into an increasingly warm surrounding. This trail for the day will be easier and you will be able to experience completely different surroundings such as coffee, yucca and granadilla farms.

Once you reach the town of Yanatile there will be transportation waiting to take you to Santa Teresa for lunch and if there is time a side trek can be taken to Cocalmayo hot springs before walking to Aguas Calientes. You will spend the night in a hostel in the small town of Aguas Calientes before taking off for Machu Picchu the following morning.
Duration: 5 hours/10 Km


Machu Picchu

On the last day, you will have an early breakfast and you will depart for the world-famous Machu Picchu!

You will take the bus up to Machu Picchu if you’d like, you also have the option of hiking. Once in Machu Picchu, you will take a guided tour that lasts for around 2.5 hours and then you will have free time to explore on your own. There will also be time to climb Huayna Picchu and get the best views of Machu Picchu from above or you can choose to visit the famous Temple of the Moon just behind Huayna.

After lunch, you will board the train and return towards Cusco at which point transportation will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco!
