Tour Information for Bio Bay Fajardo

  • Round trip transfers from your accommodation.
  • Duration: 12 hours
  • Minimum age: 8 years old

Itinerary

Your action packed day starts when your guide meets you at your accommodation; the transfer will take through some of the typically vibrant towns of the Puerto Rican East Coast before reaching your first stop. Here your guide will pick up some fresh, local fruit to tickle your taste buds, and you will also have the opportunity to purchase local fritters or fruit smoothies. The journey will recommence, leading you to the majestic, 29,000 acre rainforest El Yunque.

Throughout your hike through the subtropical rainforest, you should keep your eyes pealed for the endangered, Puerto Rican Parrot; in 1975 it was counted that there was only 13 of these birds left, all surviving in El Yuque, obviously it is approximated that this number is now much lower due to recent hurricanes and earthquakes destroying their natural habitat.

Your hike will lead you to a number of stunning rock formations that have created natural pools and waterfalls. Make the most of this unique natural playground by swishing down natural slides in the rapids, jumping off rocks into the basins of waterfalls and rope swinging into the pools. Once your appetite for adrenaline has been wet, relax and enjoy local produce surrounded by the cascading water.

Having had the opportunity to change and refresh, your guide will take you to a local restaurant where you can relish artisan Puerto Rican flavors and re-energise before the second half of your day begins.

Bioluminescence remains fairly unheard of as it is hidden in far-flung corners of the world where holiday dreams are made of; evidently it is particularly fitting that the ‘dinoflagellates’ have settled in a corner of Puerto Rico. On reaching Laguna Grande, you will kayak through Red Mangrove Forest as the sun begins to set and then as it begins to get dark you will notice that with every stroke of the paddle you take, the ocean around you will light up. Gaze into the magnificent, dazzling ocean or contemplate the constellations above you. You will soon realise you are surrounded by beautiful and rare natural wonders.

This is an unmatched experience, in terms of adventure, beauty and rarity, so is obviously not one to be missed.
