Calling all adventurous and spirited travelers for a challenging hike up Acatenango, the highest non-volcanic point in Central America.
This Acatenango Volcano Hike is more difficult than regular volcano hikes, but for the adventurous traveler it is absolutely worth it. The scenery is breathtaking, especially the views of Fuego Volcano, an active volcano that occasionally spits lava! You will be able to see Acatenango’s fiery neighbor while hiking through a beautiful pine forest. Camping is available for those who want to see this impressive view by night. The hike begins at 11,155 feet (3400 m) with a 1.5-hour climb of La Torre road, until you reach 12,559 feet (3828 m) which is the highest non-volcanic point in Central America.

Day 1 – Travel to Aldea La Soledad, Hike to the Campsite, and Explore the Mountain
Your Acatenango Volcano Hike begins with pick up at your hotel/hostel in Antigua at 9:00 am and shared transport to Aldea La Soledad. Today’s hike takes you up to the campsite, where you will have an hour for lunch, and then an afternoon free to enjoy the mountain.
Day 2 – Trek to the Top of the Volcano and Watch the Sunrise
Wake up at 4:30 am, eat breakfast, and hike up to the summit for an incredible view of dawn from on top of the volcano! Around 7:00 am, the group will begin its descent, arriving in Antigua around 11:00 am – 12:00 (noon).
