This is a difficult hike not for the faint of heart. The Acatenango hike is more difficult than the regular volcano hikes, however for the adventurous traveler this hike is absolutely worth it. The scenery is breath taking, especially the views of Fuego Volcano, an active volcano that occasionally spits lava! You will be able to see Acatenango’s fiery neighbor while hiking through a beautiful pine forest. Camping is available for those who want to see this impressive view by night. The hike begins at 3400 m with a 1.5 hour climb of La Torre road, until you reach 3.828m which is the highest non-volcanic point in Central America.
The trip begins with pick up at your hotel/hostel in Antigua at 9:00 am and shared transport to Aldea La Soledad. Today’s hike takes you up to the campsite, where you will have an hour for lunch, and then an afternoon free to enjoy the mountain.
Wake up at 4:30 am, eat breakfast, and hike up to the summit for an incredible view of dawn from on top of the volcano! Around 7:00 am, the group will begin its descent, arriving in Antigua around 11:00 am – 12:00 (noon).
Overnight. Departs every day at 09:00 am and returns at 12:00 (noon) the next day.
