On this Atitlan Lake Kayaking and Hiking Tour you will:
This is a full day round trip from Santa Cruz, including a kayak tour along the rugged north shore of Lake Atitlan, and a hike through San Marcos, Tzununa, El Jaibalito and Santa Cruz la Laguna.
Meet at the hotel dock wearing your swimsuit or other boating attire, as you will get wet along the way! You will paddle for 1.5 – 2 hours along the shores of Santa Cruz la Laguna, El Jaibalito, and Tzununa, before arriving at your destination, the charming San Marcos. Observe the Mayan fishermen up close and watch them fish with hand hewn cayukas, a practise they have done for centuries. Paddle past rugged cliffs, full of exotic plant and bird life. You will have the opportunity to cliff jump or swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Atitlan, before you stop in the bay of San Marcos.
With no true road access, the north shore of Lake Atitlan is a fairly secluded part of the world. Basically untouched by outsiders. You will hike along ancient paths used by the Maya people for centuries. Observe daily village life, see farmers tending their maize fields and coffee plantations, and see some of the most magnificent scenery in the world. The hike takes you several hundred feet above the ever changing waters of Lake Atitlan for breath taking views of the surroundings, including the famous volcanos. We end our hike in Santa Cruz la Laguna.
It is best to wear your swimsuit or other boating attire as you will get wet. You will be supplied with dry sacks and other gear for the second part of the day.
