Antigua to Panajachel.
After you check in to your hotel, you will board a private boat and cruise to Santiago de Atitlan with your private guide. See the infamous statue of Saint Maximon, and learn how the local villagers house, worship, praise, and give sacrifice to their patron saint. Next up is San Juan La Laguna, a small village where you will visit a local business and learn the traditional ways Mayan women create handmade textiles. You will return to Panajachel for a late lunch. Spend the afternoon shopping or exploring the town. The evening will be free for you to uncover the culture of Panajachel for yourself, or relax and unwind at the hotel.
Panajachel to Chichicastenango and Antigua.
Enjoy a 7:00 am breakfast so you can leave by 8:00 am to start the hour and forty-five minute journey to Chichicastenango Market. Only open on Thursdays and Sundays, Chichicastenango Market is the largest and best market in Guatemala, famous for jade jewelry, handmade wooden crafts, and traditional textiles. With a few bargaining skills you can find unique and high quality goods at very affordable prices. If you lack bargaining skills, don’t worry, your guide can do some bargaining for you! After shopping to your heart’s content, you have the opportunity to taste the local and traditional flavors of the Quiche region at a local restaurant. You will then return to Antigua, arriving at your hotel around 17:30 pm.
