Discover an amazing ancient path throughout Laguna de Chicabal, seeing very special ancient Mayan altars and enjoying the beautiful views this trekking tour has to offer to you. Getting from Xela to the volcanos area near to the lake, this tour is a spectacular opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and know this lovely people traditions.


Chicabal Lake is located 2,900 meters above sea level and 45 min from the town of San Martín Sacatepéquez (A.K.A. San Martín Chile Verde). With a dense nature life, this lake is a sacred place to this region population because here you can find different Mayan altars where the local people and Mayan priests perform their rituals. The lake most visited day is every year May the 3rd, when the Day of the Santa Cruz and the Jueves de Asunción or Día de la Rogativa are commemorated, days when more than 3,000 persons climb to the lake.

This tour will be usually done at midday, leaving Xela at 6:00 am heading towards San Martín Sacatepéquez, 45 min away from the city. This one is a moderate level tour that you won’t require any special physical condition. From the lake viewpoints you will be able to appreciate the diverse volcanoes in the area (like Santa María, Santo Tomas, Santiaguito, Tajumulco and Tacana) and the amazing natural landscapes.
