Discover San Lorenzo el Cubo, Guatemala
Begin your San Lorenzo el Cubo tour with an exciting start! With your bilingual guide, ride on an eclectic and colorful chicken bus, named for the historic days when people transported farm animals with them on the chaotic school-bus-like public transport.
After a short trip (20 minutes) you’ll arrive in San Lorenzo el Cubo. As you walk toward your first destination, learn a bit about customs and ways of life in Guatemala and San Lorenzo.
Tour Niños de Guatemala School
Guatemala does not historically provide abundant opportunities in education for its most vulnerable students. But the community of San Lorenzo el Cubo is working towards expanding opportunity, education, and health through the NGO Niños de Guatemala primary/elementary school. With a support network of social workers, psychologists, health workers, and teachers, Niños de Guatemala fills a need for holistic educational programming that supports the needs of Guatemala’s most under-served youth.
At Niños de Guatemala, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the school premises, meet students and staff members, and learn more about education in Guatemala as well as Niños de Guatemala’s programming.
Explore and Participate in Local Workshops
After learning all about Niños de Guatemala, walk to the home of Dona Ronny and Doña Rosa, local community members and artisans. A common occupation for women in San Lorenzo is to make traditional, artisanal worry dolls. In her home, Doña Rosa will teach you about the legend and history of these adorable pocket-sized companions, and teach you to make your own using local materials.
After you’ve finished, Don Ronny will lead you to the community-owned furniture workshop where he and other craftsman produce beds, cabinets, tables, chairs, and other spectacular hand-made pieces. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and watch the artisans hard at work from up-close.
After these fun and educational visits, you will return to Antigua by chicken bus, with your own handmade worry doll!
After you book your experience, you will receive a confirmation email from us confirming that your payment went through. You will then be connected directly to the tour operator, in case you have any further questions.
