Travel by private boat to the charming villages of San Antonio and Santa Catarina, located on the east shore of the lake.
3 – 4 hours
Depart from Santa Cruz. Make your way past Panajachel to the village of Santa Catarina. You will spend an hour discovering the charming village and several women’s weaving cooperatives, where you can see the process of textiles being made into table coverings, clothing, and bed covers. The colors used in the beautiful designs of Santa Catarina are vibrant blues, purples, and reds. There are no entrance fees at the cooperatives, however your gift of purchases or donations are welcome and will help these centers function.
Next up is San Antonio, a larger village perched on a hillside. Walking is a bit more strenuous on the steep streets. Here you can see terraced onion and garlic fields, maintained exactly as they were hundreds of years ago. San Antonio is home to a particular type of ceramic design. Tour the factory and shop if you desire. Last up is the geothermal hot springs. There are two hot springs – one is used by local indigenous people for cleaning and washing, while the other is more private and accessible only by boat. Relax and enjoy the hot water before returning to Santa Cruz.
