Description

Considered to be the fourth highest volcano of Guatemala, Santa Maria Volcano has a staggering height of 3772 m. Located abot 20 min from the south of Quetzaltenango, from its peak you will be able to see the beautiful view and observe the other highest volcanoes of the country such as Volcan de Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. However, the main attraction is that you will be able to see the eruptions of the active volcano of Santiaguito.

4 hours ascending / 2.5 hours descending

Itinerary

There are two options to climb this volcano:

Trekking (half a day):

We will depart at 5:00am from the lodging place in Xela and trek for between 3 to 4 hours. It will be a difficult climb and good physical condition is needed to make this trip of Santa Maria Volcano.

Trekking (two days):

This trekking tour is for two days. The first day will start at 10am from the lodging area in Xela and will take around 4 to 5 hours. The second day is the return descent at 11am.
