During this 2-Day Guatemala Volcano Tour, you will hike up Volcán Tajumulco which is the highest summit in Central America. It culminates at 4,222 meters (13,850 ft).

Itinerary

Day 1: Head over to Tuichan to start your trek

You will meet around 5:00 am according to the schedule that will be given to you the evening prior to the departure. At 5:15 am, you will take a truck to Minerva in order to board a bus going to San Marcos. Once in San Marcos, you will have some time to eat your breakfast. After this, you will take another bus to Tuichan where the trail starts. Upon arrival, you will start hiking up until the base camp located about 200 meters below the summit. At 15:00 pm, you will set up your tents for the night, eat lunch and take time to relax. Before dinner, if the weather conditions allow it, you will watch the sunset from Cerro Concepción, which is Tajumulco’s second summit.

Day 2: Watch the sunrise over the volcanic range

On this second day, you will wake up early to watch the sunrise over the volcanoes that are visible in the distance. You will enjoy the amazing view of the sun above Agua, Acatenango, Fuego, Santa María and Atitlán volcanoes. Then, you will go back to the camp to have breakfast and to pack up. After breakfast, you will start going down the mountain along a different route than the one you took.  You will take your lunch in Tuichan comedor before going back to Xela.

  • This tour requires a minimum of 3 people to run.
  • If you’re worried about the weight of your backpack, mules are available to rent for Q550.
  • You will have to attend a mandatory pre-trek meeting the night prior to departure.
  • Cancellation policy:
    -If you cancel by 11:00 am the day before your departure, you will be fully refunded.
    -If you cancel after 11:00 am but before 9:00 pm the day before your departure, you will be refunded but a GTQ100 deposit (and a 10% Credit Card surcharge if applicable) won’t be refunded.
    – If you cancel your trek after 9:00 pm the day before departure – including “no call and no show” – it will result in 50% of the total trek cost (plus 10% CC surcharge) being charged to the card on file.
