Celebrate Montevideo’s annual Carnaval season with the Tablados Uruguay. Watch shows at a tablado and understand the stories behind the celebration.
How well do you know of Uruguay’s annual Carnaval? The annual Carnaval season, with more than a century of history, lasts for approximately 40 nights in the country. And much of this celebration takes place in a stage carnival called “tablado” – so join us for a tour of Tablados Uruguay, where you can feast your eyes on the numerous shows that will be presented that night.
The Uruguayan Carnaval – a manifestation of both European and African traditions that were brought to the country in the past – mobilizes hundreds of thousands of people between the months of January and March every year, and Montevideo is the only capital of South America that still preserves the concept of “tablados” up till today. These tablados, set up in various neighborhoods within the city, present shows night after night by different groups of performers – the Murgas, the Comparsas de Negros y Lubolos, the Parodistas, the Humoristas and the Revistas – lasting for approximately 40 nights.
On this tour, you will get to experience 1 night of this carnaval, and witness for yourself the craziness and the thrill of such a festive season.
