 History and Culture

Acapulco de Juarez, whose name comes from Nahuatl, is located on the Pacific coast in the state of Guerrero, in the southwest of the Mexican territory.

Historically Acapulco had great importance thanks to its port that had its most important function as a traffic center with Asian countries.

Its more ancient roots are documented in artifacts of the local pre-Columbian cultures, which date back to 3000 thousand years B.C. The tourist importance Acapulco won was during the 1960s and 1970s, as it was the first Mexican tourist destination that was prepared to receive both national and international mass tourism.

The location in a semicircular bay surrounded by the high mountains of the Sierra Madre, called Santa Lucia. Its beaches of 16 km of extension, turn Acapulco into a center of aquatic sports and familiar amusement. Although there is a great variety of beaches, the most important are La Playa Hicacos as the main beach and the beaches Caleta and pie de la Cuesta.
